Easter

Easter this year was very enjoyable.  I started my Easter outfits earlier this year so I could finish them before it was Easter.  I accomplished my goal.  They were completed Saturday night at 11:30pm.  I made the girls dresses with matching fabric and Helaman some black dress shorts with a similar tie.  They did look cute.  I must admit that my kids are good sports wearing and loving my sew jobs. :)  My idea was much prettier in my head.  I must admit that I have completely no artistic talent at all.   The dresses remind me more of Marti Gras.   Oh well.

This year was the first year I used baskets for my kids.  I never used them before because I didn't want to waste money and buy them, because I had to place to store them.  The first Easter, (which the kids were remembering) I used brown paper sacks. I love my kids that they didn't care in the slightest.  The second year was borrowed pots from my sister's house.  But this year thanks to my wonderful M-I-L I was able to use baskets from her thrift store, which I can take back at anytime.  You gotta love connections like that.

The baskets turned out great this year.  I hate buying presents because I refuse to just buy.  My children have very few toys because I won't buy things they won't play with.  When I go into toy stores I see nothing they will play with more than once.  So buying presents for me takes A LOT of thought to make sure they will love it and play with it.  Well it worked.  The toys were a hit.  Helaman didn't stop playing with his bat and ball for over an hour.  I know he will play with it.  I can never go wrong with a Polly Pocket, and Xenia got a notepad.

I also didn't want to go overboard with the treats.  So first, I only bought Chocolate, because lets be honest it really it is the best.  Second I decided I would get other treats that my  children never get, like FISH CRACKERS.  They each got their own bag, and a box of Annie's graham bunnies.  They loved it, and they will last a little longer than the candy.  I don't know if it is any healthier, or better for their teeth, but at least it is not just candy.  It also allows them to relate to other kids.  Rather than my children saying, " we never get fish cracker they aren't healthy",  and then have other kids look at them like they are nuts! :) They can now at least say we get fish crackers on Easter. :)

This year was fun, but as I was trying to cram in the entire story of the resurrection of the Savior in five minutes before putting my kids to bed, I realized that Easter does need a little more spirituality.  Christmas it seems to be easier to remember the Savior, because Christmas is about giving, but Easter is all about give ME more candy.  So I hope to change my future Easter traditions to remember what we are really celebrating . . . that Christ lives!  Happy Easter to all!

You're right that the colors are not traditional Easter but they are still really cute. The baskets looked stuffed to me. The good thing about Easter baskets is that if you don't want to buy a lot of stuff then you can just fill the basket with Easter grass. I did Jelly Bellies, Sour Patch jelly beans, pistachios, Annie's chocolate bunnies and small raisin packs.

That's fun. I want to see the outfits on them. I guess I should go up and see them in person.

OK, I just scrolled down and read about your move. Your house looks fun and I bet you are happy to be in it. Love your sewing machine and cabinet. I have a chair just like your except it isn't white. Can you store stuff in the seat?

That's so fun that you make your kids clothes! I love to sew, but I never have the space or make the time to do it. I sent my sewing machine to Utah to be stored until we return from Russia, and I just KNOW I'm going to miss it (even if I don't use it much)!
