A New Mommy

A couple of days ago was cleaning day! Our house needed it badly. So as soon as I woke up I was cleaning and therefore the kids needed to be cleaning as well. Shortly after 12pm I got so tired of hearing whining from the kids and cleaning up what we had just cleaned up. Tempers started flying, and in the end Helaman was in Trouble on his bed. A few minutes later when his tears slowed down he declares, "Mommy, I don't like you any more. I want a new mommy!" Thanks to Cariña, Helaman had a whole list of different mommy's with all the different things he would be allowed to do with these new mommies. The list included things such as eating candy all the time, Watching TV, no more allergy treatments, could play the wii, and other activities that this terrible mommy doesn't allow. :)

After all the deliberation, he chose Grandma Connie to be his new mommy. When I said he could go to Grandma Connie's so she could be his new mommy, he was shocked and excited. He immediately stopped his fussing got up, put on his shoes, and declared for me to take him. My ego became deflated as I was so easily replaced, therefore I refused to take him. "I need to finish cleaning.", was my reply. "You are going to have to walk."

Nothing was going to stop Helaman with his new determination of going to his new mommy. So he started packing with the help of Cariña, his big sister. He got his backpacks and starting finding things to put into them. At first I was trying to discourage him by not letting him take anything. But then I remembered all the children runaway books where the mothers would overload the children. So into the backpack went Helaman's glow-in-the-dark basketball hoop, and ball, his cars, a couple of books, his fishing pole, and a few more things that I missed. Then he loaded on his trains, train tracks, and his car tracks.  Then he found out that it was going to take 5 days for him to walk to Grandma Connie's.  So I helped him get a loaf a bread, peanut butter, and a 1/2 gallon of water.  He was ready. (You can tell that he is getting a little sad. :) Poor kid.)

He started asking about what Cariña was going to do.  He was mostly sad about leaving Cariña.  Then Cariña asked if Grandma Connie's home was over the mountain, to which I replied yes. She started getting really worried and teary-eyed as well.  She was really worried about bears eating Helaman because he would be in the mountains.

Tears started flowing more freely as the good-bye continued.  It was going to be  hard to leave best-friends.  Finally as we were on our last details of the trip Helaman realized that he needed a hook if he really needed to catch a fish.  Sam just happened to call and I told Helaman he better ask daddy if he could have a hook and tell him good-bye as well.  Poor Helaman became so emotional as he realized he was going to lose his fishing partner.  The poor kid was crying so hard on the phone.
(The kids last picture together before the departure)

Finally after Helaman got off the phone with Sam he tearfully said, "Actually I don't want a new mommy!" "Actually I want to stay"

Phew, that was a close call.  :)  We are so grateful Helaman decided to stay with us. But to my dismay he only chose to stay because of Cariña, his bestfriend, and Sam his faithful fishing partner, not because of me his mommy. :)

That last picture of Carina and Helaman almost makes me cry they look so forlorn. It's also funny because Carina's hair is so Molly Ringwald.

Now I know what to do if ever one of my children want to run away. Good job!
